Dr. Israr Ahmed- Loss of an Islamic luminary figure

Renowned religious scholar and founder of Tanzeem-e-Islami Dr Israr Ahmed passed away in Lahore Wednesday.

Dr Israr Ahmed, 78, was suffering from backache and diabetes and was sick for the last two weeks.

He passed away late Wednesday night due to heart failure. His funeral prayers will be offered after Asar prayers at Central Park, Model Town.

Dr Israr Ahmed left behind 4 sons and 5 daughters. He authored more than 100 books. Dr Israr Ahmed also remained Nazim-e-Ala of Jamat-e-Islami during his student life. After finishing his studies, he became a member of Jamat-e-Islamil; however left the party due to differences with founder of Jamat-e-Islami Syed Abu Ala Modoodi. Later, he founded a separate organisation Tanzeem-e-Islami. The deceased also headed Quran Academy.

Born in 1932. Graduated from King Edward Medical College. Masters degree in Islamic studies from the uni of karachi. Worked for Muslim Student’s Federation in the Independence Movement and following 1947, for the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba. In 1967 Dr. Israr Ahmadin wrote “Islamic Renaissance. In 1971 gave up his medical practice to devote himself to the Islamic revival. In 1972 established Markazi Anjuman Khuddam-ul-Qur’an Lahore, Tanzeem-e-Islami was founded in 1975, and Tahreek-e-Khilafat Pakistan in 1991. first TV appearance in 1978 in Al-Kitab; followed by Alif Lam Meem, Rasool-e-Kamil, Umm-ul-Kitab. awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 1981. He has to his credit over 60 Urdu books on topics related to Islam and Pakistan, 9 of which have been translated into English and other languages. His works go far beyond to what I am allowed to type. Today is a sad day in our history. He will be remembered. Through his words, through his works. May Allah bless us with the vision to follow his footsteps.
